JASPER — A Friday afternoon report of a man down at the Dave Buehler Plaza eventually led to an alcohol-related arrest.
The Jasper Police Department was dispatched to the plaza area of the Riverwalk at 150 Third Ave. at 3:11 p.m. and reportedly found Jonathan J. Hunsicker, 37, 2541 Birk Drive, face down in the grass. Police reported he seemed disoriented and had a strong odor of alcohol. He also was bleeding from an injury to his forehead, according to police.
Hunsicker was transported to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center for treatment. Police left him in the care of staff at 4:30 p.m. after Hunsicker allegedly assured officers there would be no further issues.
Then, 47 minutes later, police received a call from the hospital stating Hunsicker was leaving against their advice after his blood alcohol content allegedly tested .40 percent.
Emergency room staff allegedly told police Hunsicker’s alcohol content was too high for him to be able to adequately care for himself. It was also alleged that Hunsicker was disruptive in the emergency room.
Authorities took Hunsicker into custody and booked him into the Dubois County Security Center at 1 a.m. Saturday on a preliminary misdemeanor count of public intoxication. He posted bond Saturday afternoon.
