Police arrest alleged Walmart shoplifter

JASPER — The Jasper Police Department took a woman into custody early Wednesday afternoon for allegedly shoplifting at the Walmart Supercenter, 4040 N. Newton St.

Police received a report from asset protection staff at 12:30 p.m. that a shoplifter had been detained.

After investigating, police took Cheyanna M. Nelson, 19, whose current address was unavailable, into custody, alleging she attempted to steal $130.12 worth of merchandise. Nelson was also alleged to have destroyed the packaging of an electronics product that she ultimately did not take but placed back on a shelf.

Authorities booked Nelson into the Dubois County Security Center at 2:20 p.m. on preliminary misdemeanor counts of theft and criminal mischief.
