Police arrest alleged Walmart shoplifter

JASPER — The Jasper Police Department took a Knox County man into custody Saturday afternoon for allegedly shoplifting at Walmart Supercenter, 4040 N. Newton St.

Police were told at 1:05 p.m. that suspected shoplifters identified by asset protection staff were leaving in a silver passenger car. Police conducted a traffic stop in Ireland and placed passenger John A. Martin Jr., 37, Vincennes into custody.

Martin is accused of taking a necklace and clothing items with a total value of $103.24.

Authorities booked Martin into the Dubois County Security Center at 5:51 p.m. on a preliminary misdemeanor count of theft. Martin posted bond Sunday morning.
