JASPER — The Jasper Police Department took a man into custody Sunday afternoon for allegedly shoplifting at Walmart Supercenter, 4040 N. Newton St.
Police received a report of a male shoplifter being detained by asset protection staff at 3:20 p.m.
Authorities allege Johnathan R. Rottet, 31, 11031 Third Ave., Jasper, had $60.93 worth of merchandise that he had not paid for before passing all points of sale.
Rottet was booked into the Dubois County Security Center at 5:55 p.m. on a preliminary Level 6 felony county of theft. Rottet posted bond Sunday evening.
The preliminary theft charge was elevated to a felony because of a prior conviction for the offense, according to police.
