Police arrest 4 after storage unit burglaries

From Local Sources

Four people have been arrested in connection to multiple storage unit burglaries over the past several months in Santa Claus, Ferdinand and Dale.

According to the Indiana State Police, a multi-agency investigation was spearheaded in July that included officers from the Santa Claus Police Department, Ferdinand Police Department and Warrick County Sheriffs Department who have all investigated numerous burglaries that have occurred at numerous storage units.

In August, officers started compiling the information and evidence in at least six burglaries, which included three truck loads of property which totaled over $10,000 dollars in value. The stolen items included an ATV as well as family heirlooms.

After tirelessly studying the facts and circumstances of these string of burglaries, Master Trooper Trey Lytton of the Indiana State Police, along with assisting officers, conducted interviews, followed up on leads and spoke with members of the community until they had developed several suspects.

According to police, Spencer County Prosecutor Dan Wilkenson was instrumental in assisting officers to compile the facts of the case and present that information to the Spencer County Circuit Judge who granted both search and arrest warrants.

After executing these warrants, thousands of dollars in stolen items were recovered and returned to their owners. Additionally, several suspects were arrested on numerous very serious felony charges.

“As tiring as this investigation was, it’s a great feeling and very fulfilling knowing we were able to return the stolen property back to the victims, especially the family heirlooms," said Lytton following the arrests. "This investigation would not have been possible without the efforts of the other police officers and the Spencer County Prosecutor’s office."
