Police accuse couple of shoplifting

JASPER — Police took a man and a woman from Dubois into custody Monday evening after being called to the report of shoplifting at the Walmart Supercenter.

The Jasper Police Department was called to the 4040 N. Newton St. store at 6:40 p.m.

Officers allege 18-year-old Millennia F. Hale and 19-year-old Brogan G. VanConey, both of 8116 E. State Road 56, Dubois, took and drank Starbucks coffee drinks while in the store. They are also accused of attempting to steal invitations, thank-you cards, an Xbox controller and another Xbox component. At least some of the items, valued at $158.24, were taken from packaging and concealed in Hale’s purse, police reported.

Authorities booked Hale and VanConey into the Dubois County Security Center after 9 p.m. on preliminary misdemeanor counts of theft.
