JASPER — Jasper Community Arts is preparing for its fifth annual Plein Air event.
The painting event is a part of the 2019 Strassenfest, and will take place in Dubois County on Saturday, Aug. 3. Enjoy a weekend of painting the sights and sounds of the largest festival in Dubois County, along with the charming rivers and fields of southern Indiana
The registration and check-in booth will be located downtown on the Courthouse Square during the Strassenfest, southeast side of the Dubois County Courthouse,.
Plein Air is painting outdoors rather than in a studio. The term comes from the French ‘en plein air’, meaning ‘in the open air’. The Impressionists were interested in the influence of changing light and the effects of light on color when outdoors. Monet is a popular example of a plein air painter.
Call the Jasper Arts Center to register, or go online at jasperarts.corsizio.com. Registration is $25. Early registration is encouraged; however artists may register the day of. Judging will take place at the end of the day. Cash awards will be given to the top three painters.
