Pilot taken to hospital after helicopter crash

FRANKLIN — Authorities say a pilot was taken to a hospital after a helicopter crashed near a small airport in central Indiana.

The crash happened Sunday evening in a field in Johnson County near the Franklin Flying Field. The helicopter was destroyed in the crash and fire.

The sheriff’s office says the pilot was found outside the helicopter and was described as conscious and alert when taken to the hospital.

The cause of the crash near the city of Franklin, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) southeast of Indianapolis, is under investigation.
