PIER Group receives 'Best of Tech' Mira Award

By Herald Staff

JASPER — PIER Group, a higher education IT consultancy company based out of Jasper, announced that the company won a Mira Award for Service Partner of the Year during TechPoint’s 22nd annual gala. The Mira Awards, Indiana’s largest and longest running technology awards program, recognizes the “Best of Tech” in the state.

PIER Group, a woman-owned consulting firm, has been honored for the rapid and aggressive solutions provided to its university clients in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including the design and deployment of regional and local hot spots to enable remote learning in record time.

Specifically, Indiana University partnered with PIER Group to help provide free, 24-hour, high-speed Wi-Fi access across the state to students, faculty, and staff as well as the general public who may not have internet connectivity due to COVID-19-related library and business closures. This new service of parking lot “hot spots” is innovative that in record time these access points were installed to ensure students across eight Indiana University locations throughout the state could finish their semester by maintaining and following social distancing regulations while accessing the internet from their cars.
