Pickup hits deer north of Jasper

JASPER — A Jasper man was able to drive away from the scene of a weekend collision with a deer just north of Jasper.

Gene H. Kieffner, 71, Jasper, was northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2014 GMC Sierra when the accident occurred at 9:26 p.m. Saturday just north of County Road 400N, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy said Kieffner’s truck collided with a deer that came onto the highway from the west.

Damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
