Pesticide Clean Sweep Project plannedJuly 9, 2020
Purdue Extension-Dubois County is hosting a Pesticide Clean Sweep Project from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, at the Dubois County 4-H Fairgrounds, 4157 S. State Road 162, Huntingburg. The sweep is sponsored by the Office of Indiana State Chemist. Preregistration of OISC is required for drop-off.
The Indiana Pesticide Clean Sweep Project is designed to collect and dispose of suspended, canceled, banned, unusable, opened, unopened or unwanted pesticides (weed killers, insecticides, rodenticides, fungicides, miticides, and so forth). This disposal service is free of charge up to 250 pounds per participant. For amounts over 250 pounds there will be a $2 per pound charge.
All public and private schools, golf courses, nurseries, farmers, ag dealers, cities, towns, municipalities and county units of government or others receiving this notice are eligible to participate.
Participants are required to complete and return a Clean Sweep Pesticide Planning form. Forms and more information available is available at https://www.oisc.purdue.edu/pesticide/cleansweep.html. Mail, fax, or e-mail the completed form to Garret Creason, OISC, fax 765-494-4331 or email email@example.com no later than Monday, Aug. 10. Bring labeled, leak free and safe-to-transport containers to the collection site. Do not mix pesticide materials. In case of an emergency, people should bring with them a list of products they are carrying and a contact phone number.
According to COVID-19 guidelines, when participants arrive to drop off materials they are asked to stay in their vehicle and a team member will check them in. The team will be unloading one vehicle at a time to maintain physical distancing. Face masks are encouraged if exiting the vehicle.
OISC reserves the right to cancel this Pesticide Clean Sweep Project if there is not adequate demand. Participants submitting the required Clean Sweep planning form by Aug. 10 will be contacted immediately if cancellation is necessary.
