ST. CROIX — A Saturday night crash south of St. Croix in Perry County killed a 21-year-old Leopold man.
Perry County dispatch received a call reporting a single-vehicle accident on St. Croix Road at 10:26 p.m., according to the Perry County Sheriff’s Deparment.
The first emergency personnel on the scene reported finding an unconscious male in a vehicle. The victim, Clay Atkins, 21, Leopold, was later pronounced dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation indicated Atkins had been driving southbound on St. Croix Road when his vehicle left the roadway, colliding with a tree head-on. The vehicle stopped down an embankment.
Assisting agencies included Indiana State Police, Perry County Emergency Medical Services and Rescue, the Perry County Coroner’s Office, the Central Perry Volunteer Fire Department and Ohio Valley Towing, Tell City.
