Pats advance to semis with win over Wildcats

From Herald Staff Reports

After wrapping up their first undefeated regular season since 2007 and their first Pocket Athletic conference crown since 2014, Heritage Hills continued their stellar play into the opening round of sectional by defeating Mount Vernon 47-0.

The Patriots defeated the Wildcats 45-7 in the opening week of the regular season way back in August and once again were able to dominate the ground game the second time around.

Heritage Hills struck first at the 9:36 mark in the first quarter as Cole Sigler returned the punt for a 47-yard touchdown to give the Patriots a 7-0 lead. Kyndell Carter’s 42-yard rush with 7:11 left in the first quarter put the Patriots ahead 13-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The Pats added a pair of touchdowns before halftime as Cade Jones scored twice — once from six yards out and another from one-yard to go ahead 27-0 at the halftime break.

The remainder of the scoring would take place in the third quarter as Jacob Wetzel’s 49-yard run, Gavin Vaal’s 35-yard scamper and Zane Schaad’s 31-yard rush sealed the Patriots 47-0 victory as they advance to face Gibson Southern at Fort Branch in the sectional semifinals next Friday. Heritage Hills was victorious against the Titans 31-7 in the earlier meeting this season.

Jacob Wetzel rushed for a team-high 141 yards in the victory while Kyndell Carter (70) and Zane Schaad (53) both finished with over 50 yards rushing.
