Patriots cap unbeaten season with 42-0 win

ROCKPORT — Heritage Hills, ranked No. 3 in Class 3A, completed its undefeated season Friday night, when the Patriots scored six touchdowns in the second and third quarters en route to a 42-0 whitewash of hapless South Spencer.

The victory locked up the Pocket Athletic Conference championship for the Patriots, and sends them into Friday’s sectional play at Corydon Central with a 9-0 record.

After a scoreless first quarter, Heritage Hills reeled off four scores in the second stanza for a 28-0 cushion at halftime. The Patriots got touchdowns from Jacob Wetzel on a 49-yard run, Gavin Vaal on a 39-yard jaunt, Phoenix Rodgers on a one-yard plunge and Cole Sigler on a four-yard scoring strike to Vaal. Ethan Hill tacked on the extra point after each touchdown.

The Patriots continued their onslaught in the third period with a 17-yard romp by Kaden Feldpausch, followed by a three-yard run by Wetzel for the final touchdown.

Heritage Hills piled up 279 rushing yards compared to 80 yards for the Rebels. South Spencer turned the ball over three times on the night, one on an interception and two fumbles.

Wetzel led the way for the Patriots with 112 yards, and Vaal added 73 and Sigler contributed 61.
