From Herald Staff Reports
Two local wrestlers extended their season Friday night at the state finals at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, while two others had their postseason run come to a close.
Heritage Hills junior Jake Rickenbaugh (170 pounds) and senior teammate Jared Boehm (220) both won their bouts, as Rickenbaugh pinned Jade Doty of West Lafayette in 1:53 and Boehm blanked Brandon Joest of East Noble 7-0.
Rickenbaugh (48-1) will face Fort Wayne North’s Anthony Linnear (34-4) and Boehm (49-1) will square off against Warren Central’s Maximilia Hernandez (39-1) in today’s quarterfinals.
Jasper’s two state qualifiers ended their seasons, however, as 120-pounder Nathan Schitter lost 7-1 to Deondrew Wilson (36-0) of Warren Central, and at 145, Grant Brescher fell 7-0 to Mishawaka’s Tristan Macri (44-1). Schitter concluded his junior season at 37-6 while Brescher, also a junior, closed his year at 34-8. The run also ended Friday for Jasper coach Rick Stenftenagel, who coached the final matches of his 25-year head coaching career as Stenftenagel is retiring after this season.
