Passed out driver accused of OWIOctober 15, 2019
From Local Sources
JASPER — A Sunday night report of someone passed out behind the wheel resulted in an impaired driving arrest.
The Jasper Police Department was called at 8:13 p.m. to Second Street and U.S. 231 where officers say Maria C. Jaent, 22, 2143 W. Skyview Drive, Jasper, had her head back and eyes closed behind the wheel of a 2003 Ford at a red light.
The car was in gear so an officer pulled a patrol vehicle in front of the Ford for safety.
When awakened, police said, Jaent took her foot off the Ford’s brake pedal and the car rolled into the police vehicle.
Police who report telling Jaent to place the vehicle in park said she put the car in reverse before officers were able to shut off the ignition.
Jaent allegedly showed signs of impairment and failed field sobriety testing. She was transported to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center when a blood draw reportedly placed her blood alcohol content at .367%.
Authorities booked Jaent into the Dubois County Security Center at 12:37 p.m. Monday on a preliminary misdemeanor count of operating while intoxicated. She posted bond Monday night.
