Parks appointment is surprising
December 17, 2020To the editor:
I was very surprised at the appointment of Mr. Moorman to lead the Jasper Parks Department and wondered if the Herald article may have left out some of his qualifications.
Having worked with State Recreation and Parks departments, including the National organization, it is very unusual for a city with Jasper's size and great programs to hire someone with no degree in this field. Forty-seven years ago, when Ken Buck was hired to lead our department, he had the educational degree in this field, which was unusual at the time.
I'm sure that Mr. Moorman is a fine person but if the Herald accurately reported his qualifications, it seems that the city leaders, after forty plus years, have lowered the bar when hiring for this position.
