JASPER — Burglary warrants were served last week on two Jasper men already held at the Dubois County Security Center on separate matters.
Christopher D. Barrett, 28, 255 Brucke Strasse, and Brian W. Dillard are each charged with Level 4 felony counts of burglary and Level 6 felony counts of residential entry in Dubois Circuit Court. Barrett’s warrant additionally charges him with a Level 6 felony count of theft, while Dillard’s warrant additionally charges him with a misdemeanor count of theft and Level 6 felony counts of forgery and counterfeiting.
Both men were charged after a Jasper Police Department investigation that began Oct. 24 when a man reported his checkbook stolen. A check was allegedly forged and cashed for $350 after the theft.
The victim subsequently reported other thefts from his residence involving checks, a phone, a radio, a flashlight, loose change and food items.
Barrett and Dillard were identified as suspects, with warrants being issued and executed on Friday.
The Dubois County Prosecutor’s Office has also filed notices of intent to seek habitual offender status for both Barrett and Dillard because of prior unrelated felony offense convictions.
