JASPER — Police arrested a man and a woman Thursday at the Walmart Supercenter, accusing them of shoplifting and drug possession.
Asset protection staff at the 4040 N. Newton St. store contacted the Jasper Police Department at 10:50 a.m. with a report of a theft in progress.
Police say officers detained Cody R. Christenson, 31, 214 E. 15th St., Jasper, and Paige M. Boeckman, 26, 2625 Leaf Drive, Ferdinand, as they were exiting the store with unpaid merchandise.
It was alleged items were moved from their packaging and placed in Boeckman’s purse. The items, including DVD players, a gaming headset, slippers and a GPS unit, had a total value of $576.94.
Police say a subsequent search of Christenson, Boeckman and a vehicle they had occupied found narcotics. A police K-9 had given a positive indication on the vehicle, according to authorities.
Authorities booked Christenson and Boeckman into the Dubois County Security Center on preliminary charges that included Level 6 felony counts of theft, possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a legend (prescription) drug, plus misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief.
