Paint fumes trigger college alarm

From Local Sources

JASPER — Units of the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department responded to an alarm activation Thursday morning at Vincennes University Jasper’s nursing center, 850 College Ave.

There was no fire associated with the 10:56 a.m. callout, according to Fire Chief Kenny Hochgesang. Instead, he added, it was determined fumes from painting activity had triggered the alarm.

Maintenance staff silenced the alarm and evacuated students were allowed back inside as the department successfully reset the system.

Two trucks and 21 firefighters were on the scene 20 minutes.
