IRELAND — Police placed a Pike County man under arrest after investigating a single-vehicle accident early Saturday north of Ireland.
Jeremy D. Smith, 36, Winslow, was westbound on County Road 300N in a 2007 Mitsubishi Raider when the 12:30 a.m. accident occurred east of County Road 500W, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office.
Police said Smith’s pickup truck went left of center and off the south side of the roadway where it struck a mailbox and a guy wire on a Dubois Rural Electric Cooperative pole.
An Indiana State Police trooper at the scene said testing at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center showed Smith to be impaired, with alcohol and marijuana in his system.
Authorities booked Smith into the Dubois County Security Center at 2:37 a.m. on preliminary charges of Level 6 operating while intoxicated (prior) and misdemeanor operating while under the influence of a controlled substance. The sheriff’s department reported he was also cited for driving while suspended.
Total damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
