OWI case proceeds after warrant arrest

From Local Sources

JASPER — A Ferdinand man who failed to appear at a May hearing related to an impaired driving arrest was in Dubois Superior Court on Wednesday after being picked up on a failure-to-appear warrant.

Benjamin J. Watkins, 45, 412 E. Sixth St., Ferdinand, was charged with misdemeanor operating while intoxicated after a two-vehicle accident in Ferdinand in September. An Indiana State Police trooper alleged Watkins failed field sobriety testing and had a blood alcohol content that tested .283% at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.

Officers with the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office and Ferdinand Police Department brought Watkins to the Dubois County Security Center at 1:13 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant issued after he failed to appear for a May 24 hearing.

During a court appearance Wednesday, the court confirmed a June 25 trail date for the case.
