BRETZVILLE — A report of a fire visible on the south side of State Road 64 west of the Bretzville Junction sent the St. Anthony Volunteer Fire Department into action early Sunday.
A passerby reported the fire along State Road 64 in the vicinity of County Road 50E at 1:40 a.m., according to Fire Chief Scott Uebelhor.
Firefighters found a large, controlled brush pile fire. Uebelhor said it was allowed to stay lit because of the extremely wet area it was in; however, the department advised the landowner about the state’s regulations on opening burning.
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management rules prohibit open burning after dark and before dawn.
Two trucks and 15 firefighters were on the scene 15 minutes.
