A new princess has arrived! She was born at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Saturday afternoon, Feb. 22, and weighed 9 pounds, 12 ounces. The proud parents are Jared and Jordon Merder.  She has been given the name, Andie Jane. She has a big sister, Charlie Marie. The grandparents are Tim and Janie Meyer and Kevin and Garalyn Jochem and Dave Merder. Great-grandparents are Mary Lou Bohnenkemper, Dorothy Merder and Ellen Jochem.

The Southern Belles Homemakers Club met Thursday at the Chateau for lunch. Five members and one guest were there. There were two birthdays to celebrate — Mary Lou Bohnenkemper and Pam Thomas — and they received gifts from their secret pals. The Belles will be meeting at Agave in Ferdinand for their March meeting.

Rachel Hughes and Mike, Tai, Hudson and Easton Muldoon of Richmond arrived Friday night to spend the weekend with their mother and grandmother, Delores Hemmer. They joined the rest of the family at the benefit brunch Sunday following the morning worship service at the church.

Jordon Echeverria arrived Saturday evening to spend his furlough with his parents, Jeff and Natalie Meece and the family. Jordon will be going to his new base in Kentucky when he leaves again.

Ivan Mason died on Thursday last week. Ivan had taught for 40-plus years at Winslow Elementary and Pike Central Middle schools. A visitation was held Sunday in the gym at Pike Central. Services were scheduled for Monday and school was dismissed on Monday so that any who wished might attend the funeral service.

Lent begins with Ash Wednesday this week. EPIC has invited those attending the Lenten service to come and have a light supper with them at 6 p.m. The Ash Wednesday service will begin about 6:40 p.m.

The Community World Day of Prayer will be held at noon Friday, March 6, at the St. Paul United Church of Christ. The theme will be from John 5. A light lunch will follow the service.

Sunday evening Lenten services will alternate between Holland UMC and Zoar. Zoar will host the first one Sunday evening. A light supper will be served at 5:30 p.m. with the service to follow.
