Holland Volunteer Firemen had their Christmas party on Saturday evening at the home of John and Janet Hemmer, Zoar. The hosts served a meal and the evening was spent visiting.

The Southridge Singers, comprised of grades three through five from Holland and Huntingburg elementary schools and under the direction of Kim Wirthwein, sang the National Anthem at the IU Women’s basketball game on Saturday night at Assembly Hall in Bloomington.

Reese Jean Kaiser was baptized Sunday during the morning worship service at the church. Reese was born July 23 in Greenwood. She is the daughter of Clint and Taryn (Hilsmeyer) Kaiser. The grandparents are Sean and Angela Kaiser and Mike and Sheila Hilsmeyer. Great-grandparents are Linda and the late Bill Kaiser, Jerry and Marilyn Burris, Larry and the late Wanda Hilsmeyer, the late Virgil and Bonnie Reese and the late David Schroeder.

The women of the church had a progressive dinner as their Christmas party on Sunday. The first course of the meal, soup and appetitizers, was served at the home of Rose Brang, where Emilie Nichols served as a co-host. The second course was served at the home of Erin Marshall and was the entrée. The final stop was at the home of Becky Brockriede and was the dessert course. Twenty-one women and daughters took part in the meal. Games were played at each stop and prizes awarded.

The Southridge High School Band and Choir held their Christmas concert on Sunday afternoon at the Southridge Auditorium. The event was well attended and their music was beautiful.

A surprise birthday supper was held Sunday evening in honor of Janet Hemmer at her home. The guests, in addition to her husband and children and their families, were Luella Sattler and William and Jolene Caldemeyer.

Christmas baskets were delivered this past weekend to those of the church who are age 80 or older and to the shut-ins. This is an outreach program of the United Methodist Women.

Planning and practices are underway for the Christmas Eve program at the church.  his year’s production will be a play with a lot of music.  The children will have a part in the program as well.

A Women’s Night of Worship will be held Friday, Dec. 20. This is a special night of worship for the women to enjoy a quiet time of candlelight, scripture and music. A time of fellowship will follow the service.
