The school year is coming to a close. The children are counting down the days now. Commencement is scheduled for both Pike Central and Southridge on Friday evening.

The winners of the Steve Hunter Softball Classic were Slow Motion, first place, and DBS, runners-up. There were six teams competing in the tourney. Proceeds from the benefit will go to a memorial in Steve Hunter’s name, possibly a scorer’s bench for the park.

John and Janet Hemmer and William and Jolene Caldemeyer returned Sunday from Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, where they spent several days at the F-100 Family Reunion Truck Show.

The Holland American Legion Post 343 will hold memorial services Sunday at the various cemeteries in the area. They will be at Selvin at 1 p.m., Holland at 1:30 p.m., Zoar at 2 p.m., Stendal at 2:30 p.m. and St. Paul at 3 p.m. There will be a brief speaker at each cemetery.

Zoar will be hosting the community vacation Bible school this year from June 17 through 20. The theme of this year’s school is “Athens: Paul’s Dangerous Journey to Share the Truth.”  If your children plan to attend or you are able to assist with this program, notify the church office at 812-536-4862.

A birthday luncheon was held Sunday at the home of Jeff and Natalie Meece and family to honor the birthdays of Becky and Ron Brockriede. The luncheon was hosted by their family.

Bill and Patty Nance have returned from Tennessee where they spent time with Bill’s family. While there they visited his brother, Steve Nance, in Parsons, Tennessee; a brother, George and his wife, Maerene Nance, Lexington, Tennessee; and brother, James Nance, and his friend, Kathy McCoy, Decaturville, Tennessee. They also were happy to renew a friendship with Johnny and Tina Macadoo, Holladay, Tennessee. The Macadoos were friends they knew when they lived in Florida.

The pink rose on the altar during Sunday morning worship was in recognition of the baby girl born May 7 in Evansville to T.J. and Lauren Reese. The little lady weighed 6 pounds, 12 ounces and has been given the name Leighton Jade. Leighton has a big sister, Dakota. The grandparents are Dave and Mary Reese and Keith and Nikki Wheeler.
