Our Town: Zoar

This is Mosquito Fest week. Many are working hard to make this year’s festival a success. Some new things are happening and some of the old “tried and true” happenings are being repeated. A gift basket will be given away both Friday and Saturday nights. People need only to register and be there for the drawing at the close of each evening’s events. There is something for everyone at this year’s festival. The fun begins Friday evening.

Doug, Alaina and Saoirse Hall of Casper, Wyoming, and Jesse Norman of Manchester, Missouri, arrived Saturday afternoon to spend the week with family members and attend the Mosquito Fest.

Mike and Kim Wampler hosted a cookout at their home Saturday evening for the Thursday evening Bible study group. Eighteen members of the group and friends attended.

Jeff and Natalie Meece and Jeremy and Erin Marshall returned Sunday afternoon from a week in Hawaii.

A birthday dinner, at the home of Ron and Becky Brockriede, was held Sunday afternoon to help Bella Ransome celebrate her 9th birthday. A cookout meal was served and fun and games ensued.

Cheyenne D’Poffo and Ethan Eckert were married Saturday, July 21, in Newport, Tennessee, at the Christopher Place Bed and Breakfast in a beautiful setting overlooking the Smoky Mountains. The couple is making their home in the Zoar community with their young son, Alexander James.

The Huntingburg All-Stars age 7 and younger finished up their season in the Pine Ridge Battle of the Ridge tourney with a win and a loss each day. Bentley Brockriede was a member of the team.

The morning worship service next Sunday morning will be held outdoors in the church grove. People may bring lawn chairs or use the seating that will be there.  The service is at 9 a.m.

A benefit luncheon is being planned for Aug. 19 at the church for Robert “Bomber” and Sandy Rodenhouse. The meal will feature sandwiches, salads and desserts.  A silent auction will be held. The proceeds will go to help with medical bills and other expenses. The luncheon is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
