Rosie Stewart honored
Celestine resident Rosie Stewart was honored recently with the German Heritage Award sponsored by the Jasper German Club, the Sister Cities of Jasper group and the Jasper Partnership Commission. Her interest in genealogy, in history and in records led her to being named to this award.
People may know her as the clerk in the Records Library in the basement of the Dubois County Courthouse. Stewart not only can find information on a family name and descendants, but found for this writer information on students who attended Ellsworth and Bender one-room schools back in the 1930s.
Congratulations, Rosie. Keep doing what you love doing. She is the daughter of Dorothy and the late Frank Merter, was married to the late Elmer Steward, and has a son, Matt. Another son, Joseph, is deceased.
