Our Town: Celestine

Everyone is welcome to join together for some great fellowship and food after First Friday Mass at 8 a.m. Friday, June 7, at St. Celestine. A buffet breakfast will be served at Happy Hour Restaurant followed by Game Day at St. Celestine Dining Hall.

Religious education, VBS forms

Forms for the 2019-20 school year, along with 2019 VBS registrations, were mailed this week. Extra copies can be found at the main church entrances as well as on the website. Read all the information as some times and locations have changed. All forms are due to the parish office by Monday, July 1.

Donations for workcamp

Donations are needed for the Catholic Heart Workcamp In June. We have 22 adults and youth attending the workcamp in Louisville from June 16 to 22. Each participant is required to bring a paint brush, roller cover and drop cloth. Participants can also bring painters tape, a paint tray, a small bucket, a paint scraper and rags for cleaning. If you can help by donating any of these items, contact Connie Matheis or the parish office.

Senior citizens dinner

St. Isidore Parish Senior Citizens are asked to make their reservations for the Wednesday, June 12, dinner by Monday, June 3. The evening will begin with a 6 p.m. Mass followed by dinner. Everything will be held at the Celestine Community Club. Invitations were mailed this past week. Call the parish office at 812-634-1875 to make reservations.

Parish council nominations

Parish council nominations are being sought for new members. Members are elected to a three-year term. Qualifications are:

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must be an active member of the parish (registered member for at least one year.)

Practicing Catholic visible at Sunday worship with the community and faithful to teaching and living the doctrine and practice of the Catholic Church.

Must be able to attend parish council meetings. Meetings are held once a month on the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. The location rotates from St. Celestine Campus to the St. Raphael Campus.

All nominations are due to the parish office by Monday, June 10. Voting will take place the weekend of July 27-28.

Current parish council members are Teresa Betz, Jennifer Bieker, Joe DeKemper, Jeremy Mundy, Joyce Hulsman, Whitley Kluesner, Kurt Hassfurther, Clarence Reckelhoff, Kathy Hopf, Stacy Brosmer, Ian Denu and Jeff Betz. Teresa Betz, Jennifer Bieker, Joe DeKemper and Jeremy Mundy will be leaving the council in August.

Religious education nominations

New members are being sought for the Religious Education Commission at St. Isidore. Members are elected to a three-year term. Qualifications are:

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Practicing Catholic visible at Sunday worship with the community and faithful to teaching and living the doctrine and practice of the Catholic Church.

Is familiar with or willing to learn about the religious education program.

Cares about the religious education for our youth and our future.

Can help with creating insights and ideas for the best interest of our youth.

Is willing to create a dream for our program and establish goals to get there.

Can attend commission meeting every other month (six per year).

Is willing to assist with religious education fundraisers for the benefit of the budget.

All nominations are due to the parish office by Monday, June 10. Voting will take place the weekend of July 27-28.

Current members are Mallory Hall, Laine Busick, Kevin Knies, Audrey Denu, Cassie Beyke and Ben Gessner.  Mallory Hall and Laine Busick will be going off the commission in August.

Past members are Ellen Senninger, Connie Matheis, Sherry Schnell, Margaret Buechler, Maurice Pund, Jack Hasenour, Angie Sander, Clara Fromme, Connie Betz, Paula Wehr, Eddie Reckelhoff, Patty Englert, Karen Eisenhut, Laura Betz, Tammy Mehringer, Sharon Johnson and Tami Knies.

Farewell, thank you

Father Eugene’s farewell and thank-you weekend will be held June 22-23. Receptions will be held after all Masses.

On Saturday, June 22, after the 4:30 p.m. Mass, appetizers, cake and punch will be served in St. Celestine’s Dining Hall.

On Sunday, June 23, after the 8 a.m. Mass on the St. Celestine carport will be doughnuts, juice and milk. Then on Sunday, June 23, after the 10 a.m. Mass and Corpus Christi Procession following Mass (approximately at 11:30 a.m.) in the St. Raphael Church basement will be appetizers and refreshments.

Family of the Month

The Good Shepherd of the Hills Knights of Columbus Council has nominated the Brady and Lacey Fischer family as family of the month for June. The council thanks them for their service to the parish and the local community.

K of C notices

The Knights of Columbus officers’ meeting will be held at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, in the St. Celestine Catholic Church Dining Hall.

The regular business meeting will be held at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, in the Happy Hour lower level.

Any Catholic gentleman interested in learning more about the benefits of becoming a K of C member is welcome to come at 7 p.m. prior to the meeting or contact Ted Schnackertz at 812-389-2529 or email council13623@indianakofc.org.
