Father Eugene Schmitt announced at Masses on May 11 and 12, that the Diocese of Evansville is moving him to a new assignment from St. Isidore Parish to St. Joseph Parish in Jasper. Father Jeff Read is the new pastor who has been assigned to replace Father Eugene at St. Isidore Parish. Father Eugene’s last weekend at St. Isidore will be the Masses on June 22-23.

Father Read will start at St. Isidore on June 26. His first weekend Masses will be June 29-30.

The parish of St. Isidore thanked Father Eugene on their Facebook post for his eight years of service to the parish and communities of Celestine and Dubois.

Father Eugene and Father Read’s new assignments are part of 22 reassignments across the Diocese of Evansville this summer.

Father Read comes to St. Isidore from parishes in Sullivan and Jasonville. He was ordained in 2012. Father Read is familiar with Dubois County from his time serving at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland and Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper. He was the priest representative for Source and Summit.

He has a sister that is a nun for the Passionist Order. He is from St. John’s Catholic Church in Daylight.

Graduation breakfast

The St. Isidore Parish graduation breakfast will be held Sunday, May 19. The breakfast will be served at 8:45 a.m. at the St. Celestine Dining Hall. Graduates will receive a special blessing at all Masses the weekend of May 18-19. Afterward, the St. Anne’s Sodality will host a free breakfast for eighth grade, high school and college graduates and their family members. The parish wishes to congratulate families on their accomplishments and wish the graduates well in their future plans.

Breakfast reservations turned into the parish were needed for the food count.

Ride to Remember

The Southwest Indiana Patriot Guard will have its annual Ride to Remember Sunday, May 19.

They plan to arrive at St. Raphael Catholic Church at approximately 12:30 p.m. for their tribute to CPL Eric Lueken and SFC Dave Moore. They will then proceed to Celestine for a tribute to LCPL Alec Terwiske at approximately 2 p.m. Full details can be found at www.swinrtr.org.

Following the service, a blessing of motorcycles will take place at approximately 1:15 p.m. Everyone is invited to come out for this special blessing.

Dennis Wagner fundraiser

A fundraiser for Dennis Wagner will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at the Northeast Dubois School Corp. Maintenance Shop. Carla Wagner, his wife, is an employee of the corporation. The fundraiser will help pay for medical bills. Details can be found on the corporation’s website.

Memorial Day activities

The Memorial Day Mass will begin at 8 a.m. at St. Celestine Church with the memorial service to follow at 8:30 a.m. by the St. Anthony Legion Post and Unit 493 in the St. Celestine Cemetery.

Religious education, VBS forms

Forms for the 2019-20 school year, along with 2019 VBS registrations, were mailed this week. Extra copies can be found at the main church entrances as well as on the website. Read all the information as some times and locations have changed. All forms are due to the parish office by Monday, July 1.

Donations for workcamp

Donations are needed for the Catholic Heart Workcamp In June. We have 22 adults and youth attending the workcamp in Louisville from June 16 to 22. Each participant is required to bring a paint brush, roller cover and drop cloth. Participants can also bring painters tape, a paint tray, a small bucket, a paint scraper and rags for cleaning. If you can help by donating any of these items, contact Connie Matheis or the parish office.

Senior citizens dinner

St. Isidore Parish Senior Citizens are asked to make their reservations for the Wednesday, June 12, dinner by Monday, June 3. The evening will begin with a 6 p.m. Mass followed by dinner. Everything will be held at the Celestine Community Club. Invitations were mailed this past week. Call the parish office at 812-634-1875 to make reservations.

Parish council nominations

Parish council nominations are being sought for new members. Members are elected to a three-year term. Qualifications are:

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must be an active member of the parish (registered member for at least one year.)

Practicing Catholic visible at Sunday worship with the community and faithful to teaching and living the doctrine and practice of the Catholic Church.

Must be able to attend parish council meetings. Meetings are held once a month on the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. The location rotates from St. Celestine Campus to the St. Raphael Campus.

All nominations are due to the parish office by Monday, June 10. Voting will take place the weekend of July 27-28.

Current parish council members are Teresa Betz, Jennifer Bieker, Joe DeKemper, Jeremy Mundy, Joyce Hulsman, Whitley Kluesner, Kurt Hassfurther, Clarence Reckelhoff, Kathy Hopf, Stacy Brosmer, Ian Denu and Jeff Betz. Religious education nominations

New members are being sought for the Religious Education Commission at St. Isidore. Members are elected to a three year term. Qualifications are:

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Practicing Catholic visible at Sunday worship with the community and faithful to teaching and living the doctrine and practice of the Catholic Church.

Is familiar with or willing to learn about the religious education program.

Cares about the religious education for our youth and our future.

Can help with creating insights and ideas for the best interest of our youth.

Is willing to create a dream for our program and establish goals to get there.

Can attend commission meeting every other month (six per year).

Is willing to assist with religious education fundraisers for the benefit of the budget.

All nominations are due to the parish office by Monday, June 10. Voting will take place the weekend of July 27-28.

Incoming sophomores, juniors and seniors interested in learning more about health careers: Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center and Vincennes University Jasper Campus Heath Careers Camp is designed for you. This camp will provide you with engaging activities, educational sessions and practical advice to further explore and pursue health care careers. This three-day (July 24 to 26), action-packed camp will also give insight into college life and a variety of health care careers. Deadline to register is June 3. Cost is $30. Applications are available in the outer guidance office.

Summer School Online Credit Recovery through Indiana Virtual Academy will be available again this summer for students who earn a failing semester grade(s) for a required course. Registration will run May 1 through 31 and should be done with Jennifer Vonderheide, alternative education director. For more details, reference the handout that was emailed to you and/or can be picked up in the outer guidance office.

Celestine Streetfest

The Celestine Streetfest will be Saturday, June 29, on the ground of St. Isidore Parish on the St. Celestine Church Campus.

Help is needed for the events:

Fest setup: Wednesday and Thursday, June 26-27 at 6 p.m.; Friday, June 28, remaining preparations. Volunteers of all ages are welcome and encouraged to help. Help is needed to set up all of the stands, tables, fence, stage, tents, parking, signage, and so forth. Food and drinks will be provided.
