The Celestine Community Club has several spring shoots:

Friday, March 22: Community club.

Friday, March 29: Celestine Park.

Friday, April 5: Community club.

Friday, April 12: Knights of Columbus.

Friday, April 26: Celestine Fire Dept.

The doors will open at 5 p.m. for the shoots and the kitchen will open at 6 p.m. Closed matches begin at 8 p.m. All are invited to come out and support these wonderful organizations that do so much for the parish and community.

Softball signups

Girls ages 4 to 13 interested in playing in the Northeast Dubois Youth Softball League may still sign up. Call 812-639-7304 or 812-630-2221 by Sunday, March 3.

Little League baseball

Registration forms for Little League baseball are available at the elementary and middle schools. Those born between September 2006 and August 2015 are eligible to play.

Game Night

Everyone is invited to Game Night from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at St. Celestine Dining Hall. Bring your own board games to play with others. The event is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. Snacks and drinks will be available.

Youth Appeal Weekend

Youth Appeal Weekend is Feb. 23-24. A second collection will be taken at all Masses next weekend to support the different opportunities for youth to attend to become more active in their faith and parish.

Ash Wednesday schedule

It is not too early to think about Lent. Mass Times will 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, at St. Raphael Church, noon at St. Celestine Church and 6 p.m. at St. Celestine Church. There will be Wednesday evening Religion Education classes from 7 to 8 p.m. on that day.

Friday Mass change

During Lent Father will say Mass at 6 a.m. on Fridays, March 8, 15, 22, 29 and April 12. The First Friday Mass on April 5 will be held at 8 a.m. due to other First Friday activities.

After Lent, the Friday Mass will return to 8 a.m

Sheephead tourneys

The public is invited to the Celestine Community Club’s annual First Friday Night Sheephead tourneys. The last tourney of the winter is scheduled for March 1. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and play will begin at 7 p.m. Food and refreshments will be served.


Post-prom meetings will be held at 6:30 p.m. Mondays, Feb. 25, March 4 and 18 and April 1.

Meeting times for the week of April 8 through 12 will be announced.

St. Isidore Parish events

Friday, Feb. 22: Game Night, 6:30-10 p.m., St. Celestine Catholic Church.

Wednesday, March 6: Ash Wednesday.

Sunday through Tuesday, March 10-12: Parish mission with Father Tyler Tenbarge.

D of I card party

The Daughters of Isabella Circle 140 will hold a card party on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the Moose Family Center in Jasper. Doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is $2 per ticket. People may bring their own cards and games. Coffee and dessert will be served. Food and drinks will be available.

Fish fries

A fish fry will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 15, at the St. Celestine Campus. The fish fry will be held until all 600 plates are gone. Dine-in, drive-thru or carryout will be available. The meal will feature fish, German fries, bread, slaw and dessert at $10 a plate.

Good Shepherd of the Hills Knights of Columbus will sponsor a fish fry from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, April 12. Drive-thru begins at 6 p.m.

Community yard sales

The Celestine community spring yard sales will be held April 26-27. Call Kristy Buechler at 812-481-2251 no later than Monday, April 22, to get your location on the map.

Paint like Bob Ross

The Dubois Branch Library is offering a painting class led by certified Bob Ross Instructor Brian Sutton from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 13.

Participants, who must be age 18 or older, will paint “A Trace of Spring” from the Bob Ross “The Joy of Painting” series in four hours. All materials and supplies, including a 11-by-14-inch canvas, are included. No previous painting experience is required.

The cost of the class is $50. Registration and payment must be made online at https://www.artpartypainting.com/. Use the code “DUBOIS” to receive a $20 discount. The library cannot accept registrations or payments. There is a limit of 20 participants.

Northeast Dubois High School

Events scheduled at Northeast Dubois High School include the girls basketball banquet at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25 and the swimming banquet planned for 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28.

Congratulations to students for being nominated to serve as a Hoosier Girls/Boys State delegates. They are Jara Braunecker, Adrienne Betz, Olivia Schroering, Presley Neukam, Colby Stafford, Austin Palmer, Jared Young and Trenton Harrison.

K of C free-throw winner

Congratulations to Celestine Elementary fourth grader Carson Beck, who has advanced to the state championship of the nationwide Knights of Columbus free-throw contest. Carson won at the regional competition in his 9-year-old division in Newburgh on Sunday, Feb. 17. Carson’s local round was sponsored by Good Shepherd of the Hills, which serves St. Isidore Parish where Carson is a member.

The state competition will be held Sunday, March 3, in Noblesville at St. Theodore Guerin High School. Also advancing to regional after winning at district competition in Jasper and local competition rounds at Dubois were Northeast Dubois students Aiden Buechler and Zach Betz.

Dubois Branch Library

End-of-the-Month Book Club: 6:30-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25. Stop by the front desk to pick up a copy.

Squishy Circuits: 3:15-4:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28. Ages 5-17; children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Preregistration required.
