The public is invited to the Celestine Community Club’s annual First Friday Night Sheephead tourneys. The tourneys will take place Fridays, Feb. 1 and March 1. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and play will begin at 7 p.m. Food and refreshments will be served. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., with the tourney beginning at noon.
Blessing of St. Blaise
In honor of the feast of St. Blaise, St. Isidore Parish will be offering the blessing of throats after all Masses this weekend.
Breakfast and fellowship
A breakfast will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday, Feb. 3, in St. Raphael Church’s basement. All are welcome to join us for some great food and fellowship!
The event is sponsored by the Youth Ministry. Free will donations will be used to support youth activities.
Distinguished Service Award
The Celestine Park will present the Celestine DSA Award at 9 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, at St. Celestine’s Dining Hall.
Souper Bowl Sunday
Souper Bowl Sunday will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, at St. Peter Fellowship Hall, 5535 E. Vine St., Dubois. On the menu will be a chili dinner with a sandwich, dessert and drink for $9.
Chili will be sold in bulk at $16 a gallon or $8 per half-gallon. This is a community fundraiser for the Indiana-Kentucky Conference’s Young Ambassadors sponsored by the St. Peter’s United Church of Christ Women’s Guild.
Daughters of Isabella
Daughters of Isabella Jasper Circle 140 will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, in Room 301 at St. Joseph Parish Center.
Membership dues for 2018 are now payable. Members with last names A through K are asked to send their $15 check with a stamped, self-addressed envelope to Betty Mehringer, 1744 W. Ackerman Road, Jasper, while those with last names L through Z are asked to send their check and envelope to Chris Schuetter, 2452 N. Mill St., Jasper. All Catholic women are invited to join the D of I. Contact Regent Marge Beckman, Vice Regent Kathy Schneider or any member for information.
The D of I will hold a card party on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the Moose Family Center in Jasper. Doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is $2 per ticket. People may bring their own cards and games. Coffee and dessert will be served. Food and drinks will be available.
K of C meeting notice
There will be a Good Shepherd Knights of Columbus Council officers’ meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 5.
The next regular business meeting will be held at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, in the Happy Hour Sports Bar and Grill basement. Any Catholic gentleman interested in learning more about the benefits of becoming a K of C member is welcome to come to Happy Hour at 7 p.m. prior to the meeting or contact Ted Schnackertz at 812-389-2529 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday, Feb. 10, at St. Raphael Campus. The Red Cross asks you to consider donating blood and saving up to three lives.
Free-throw competition results
Winners were named from the Knights of Columbus free-throw competition held Sunday, Jan. 27, at the Dubois Middle School gym. Good Shepherd of the Hills Knights of Columbus Council 13623 was the sponsor.
There were a total of 29 participants.
Winners of the free-throw competition are listed as winners and runners-up, respectively.
9-year-old boys: Carson Beck and Garrett Goller.
10-year-old boys: Lane Neukam and Elijah Goodman.
10-year-old girls: Bailey Werner and Alli Betz.
11-year-old boys: Zachary Betz and Luke Smith.
11-year-old girls: Madalyn Burgan.
12-year-old boys: Evan Mitchell and Landon Goller.
12-year-old girls: Emma Mitchell.
13-year-old boys: Aiden Buechler and Brayden Beck.
13-year-old girls: Emma Betz.
14-year-old boys: Evan Smith and Isaac Bachman.
Senior graduate dinner
The Class of 2019 will be honored Wednesday, Feb. 20, at St. Joseph Parish Center, Jasper. The doors open at 6 p.m. with dinner being served at 6:30 p.m. All area high school seniors and their parents are invited. A program will follow until 9 p.m. with breakout panel discussions for senior students and their parents.
Return reservations to Glenda Reckelhoff at St. Isidore Parish Center by Wednesday, Feb. 13 .
Everyone is invited to Game Night from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at St. Celestine Dining Hall. Bring your own board games to play with others. The event is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. Snacks and drinks will be available.
Ash Wednesday schedule
It is not too early to think about Lent.
Mass Times will be Wednesday, March 6 at 6:45 a.m. at St. Raphael Church, noon at St. Celestine Church and 6 p.m. at St. Celestine Church. There will be Wednesday evening Religion Education classes from 7 to 8 p.m. on that day.
Friday Mass change
During Lent Father will say Mass at 6 a.m. on Fridays, March 8, 15, 22, 29 and April 12. The First Friday Mass on April 5 will be held at 8 a.m. due to other First Friday activities.
After Lent, the Friday Mass will return to 8 a.m.
Quilt of the Month
Congratulations to Ashley Kiefer on winning the January Quilt of the Month at St. Isidore Parish. Providing and making the quilt was Lucille Doty and her committee of Tammy Mehringer, Marla Sander, Mary Ann Sander, Marcia Stetter, Donna Terwiske, Brianne Knies and Andrea Mehringer. Money raised will help support the religious education program. There will be one more drawing in February.
Dubois Branch Library
The library will be closed on Friday, Feb. 18, for Presidents’ Day.
