Books and merchandise
Want to remember the Celestine 175th Celebration? Pick up a copy of the outstanding 2018 edition of the Celestine History book! Anyone with any connection — great or small — to Celestine will appreciate having this book. It contains not only history, but also human interest features in an easy-to read style. This is a stand-alone book, but it can be coupled with the 1993 history book to have the complete story of Celestine.
The Girl Scouts have put together a perpetual calendar and photo book. The book contains wonderful pictures of the area and some locally treasured recipes. This spiral-bound book is a very useful gift as it can be used as your primary calendar for birthday and anniversaries every year. Days of the month are listed, but not in a particular year’s calendar — thus it’s perpetual.
Both of these books are for sale at the parish office or by contacting Clara Fromme or Denise Buechler.
Streetfest 2019 meeting
Join the Community of Celestine at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3 in the basement of The Happy Hour Sports Bar & Grill for the next public planning meeting for Streetfest 2019. The fest is set for Saturday, June 29. Starting in January, monthly meetings will be held at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month.
The January meeting will include reports from all chairpersons and areas of the fest. They will review the current version of the schedule so they can finalize it at the February meeting.
There will be attendance prizes from the remaining inventory of Celestine 175 merchandise!
They ask that each of the main organizations that play major roles (and will receive future distributions from the profits) have one or two members on hand to take notes and report back to their organizations. These organizations are: the Celestine Community Club, Celestine Park, Knights of Columbus, Celestine PTO, Celestine Volunteer Fire Department and St. Isidore Parish.
They welcome anyone to attend to contribute ideas! Additionally, they are looking for people to help in the following ways:
Logistics Committee: This committee already exists informally. They would like to officially create a committee of hands on people to take the lead on organizing and tackling things like setup, tear down and rental items.
Fun and Games Committee: They have an idea for a series of on-stage games and competitions between young and old in the community. Games would be like those that you would see at family reunions, post proms, field days and on the TV show Minute to Win It. We need a team to help pull it together.
If you are interested in joining these committees or have other ideas please contact Tony Buechler at 812-827-8430 or Dawn Schaefer at 812-639-1048.
