The Celestine Parent-Teacher Organization is sponsoring a meat fundraiser from Monday, Oct. 1,  through Saturday, Oct. 6. Sander Processing will donate to the PTO a portion of the sales for: ground beef (10 pounds; $5 donation); boneless pork loin ($3 donation), sausage links (5-pound bag; $3 donation); pulled barbecue pork (2- or 5-pound bag; $1 donation); smoked bacon (1 pound; $1 donation); summer sausage (all flavors; $1 donation); and Italian or barbecue-marinated chicken breast ($1 donation).

St. Isidore calendar

Oct. 7: St. Isidore social at St. Raphael Campus.

Oct. 12: Harvest Festival at St. Celestine Campus.

Oct. 13: Saturday evening Mass switch to St. Raphael.

Oct. 28: St. Isidore shoot at Celestine Community Club.

Nov. 16: Kirby Stailey concert at St. Celestine.

Mass change

The Saturday evening Mass for the winter will switch to St. Raphael’s Church on Saturday, Oct. 13.This is a correction from what was in the newsletter. It will now move on the second Sunday in October due to the social set-up taking up the south parking lot.

Harvest Festival

The Harvest Festival will be held Friday, Oct. 12, at St. Celestine Campus. The family night full of fun for everyone begins with a meal at 5:30 p.m. in the dining hall. Fried chicken and a drink will be provided.

Those attending are asked to bring a carry-in dish. In order to provide a variety of dishes, those with last names beginning with A through K should bring a salad or vegetable, L through R a dessert and S through Z, either bread, potato or fruit.

Reservations need to be in the parish office for a meal count by Monday, Oct. 8.

An outdoor movie starts at 8 p.m. Participants are asked to bring chairs and blankets.

Wisdom Day

The East Deanery will host Wisdom Day between 8 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at the Huntingburg Event Center. Everyone ages 55 and older is invited to attend. The day offers opportunities to listen to speakers and to converse with friends and neighbors. A continental breakfast and full lunch are provided, as is entertainment. This East Deanery event is free to attend, with a free will offering taken. Registration is now open by calling the parish office at 812-634-1875 or Catholic Charities at 812-423-5456.

Library news

Library closed: Oct. 8: for staff development day.

Saturday book sale: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6.

Family creativity time: 6:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, and 2:45-3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12. Preregistration required.

Little Hats, Big Hearts: 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 and 25.

Autumn tea: noon-1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13.

Quilt sweepstakes

St. Isidore Religious Education is sponsoring a quilt sweepstakes to raise money for the program. Tickets are $5 each or six for $25.

A drawing will be held on these dates: Nov. 25, Christmas; Dec. 30, $200 cash prize; Jan. 27, quilt (no information given yet); and Feb. 24 (no quilt information given yet).  Tickets are available at the parish office.

School news

Northeast Dubois High School:

Oct 10: Senior job shadow day; freshman campus visits; and preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test for all juniors and sophomores.

Oct. 18: Financial aid workshop for seniors and parents at 6 p.m.

Oct. 6: Band competitions at Jasper (state preliminaries). Oct. 20: Lawrence Central (possibly state).

Dubois and Celestine schools:

Oct. 16 and 18: Parent-teacher conferences. Forms were sent home with all students.

School corporation:

Oct 22-26: Fall break, no school.

Blood drive

St. Peter United Church of Christ host an American Red Cross blood drive from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday, Oct. 14. 175th history book

Copies of the Celestine Indiana 175 Years 2018 history book are available at the St. Celestine Parish Office. A popular feature of the book is the farms that had families trace their ownership back through family history for over 100 years. Families worked hard to document their farm’s history.
