The St. Isidore Parish has upcoming events.

Aug. 11-12: Youth appeal collection.

Aug. 14: Holy Day Mass at 6:30 p.m. at St. Celestine.

Aug. 15: Holy Day Masses at 6:45 a.m. at St. Raphael and 7 p.m. at St. Celestine.

Sept. 29: Confirmation Mass at St. Celestine.

Oct. 3: Legacy Night “Our Faith Journey” at St. Celestine.

Oct. 7: St. Isidore social at St. Raphael Campus.

Oct. 12: Harvest Festival at St. Celestine Campus.

Oct. 28: St. Isidore shoot at Celestine Community Club.

Shooting matches

The Celestine Community Club will hold its annual 14-week Wednesday night shooting matches, beginning Aug. 22. The matches will run until Thanksgiving Eve, Nov. 29. The closed shoot starts at 8 p.m. Fried chicken meals and various sandwiches will be served at 6 p.m. from the club kitchen.

Tractor pull

The Celestine Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual tractor pull on Sunday, Aug. 26, at the Celestine Community Club. Scales open at noon with starting time at 1 p.m.

Bruté Award

It is that time of year when St. Isidore parishioners look around to see who would be a candidate for the Brute’ Award, an award given annually by the Diocese of Evansville. That person or couple should have the following qualities:

A life style that would generally be described by fellow parishioners as that of a “good Christian.”

An exceptional commitment to the principles of good stewardship. This is usually shown over a period of time through selfless giving of one’s time, talent, and treasure to the life and work of a parish community.

An individual or couple whom fellow parishioners would be proud to have represent their parish by being accepted as members of The Bruté Society.

If you know of someone or a couple in our parish who possess these qualities, please fill out the form on the church bulletin telling why you think they should be selected. You can return this in the collection or to the parish office by Sept. 4.

Blood drive

The American Red Cross will sponsor a blood drive from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday, Aug. 12, at the St. Raphael Campus.

St. Isidore shoot

A planning session for the St. Isidore Church shoot will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, in the St. Celestine dining hall. All chairpersons and anyone who would like to be more involved is welcome to attend. Anyone not able to attend should contact Denise Buechler to review the work schedule for any changes.

Raffle ticket packets

Envelopes with raffle and special quilt tickets for both the social and shoot will be available for pick up in both churches starting the weekend of Sept. 1 and 2. Help sell these tickets to spread the word about the events.

Donations needed

Anyone wanting to donate any beef or pork to the St. Isidore shoot is asked to contact the parish office or Chris Sander at Sander Processing. Donations also are being accepted for cash for raffle prizes, tent rental or the cost of tickets for both the social and shoot. Contact the parish office if wanting to make a donation.

Religious education

There are still a large number of registration forms that have not been returned.

Return forms as soon as possible. If payment is an issue, there is a financial line to be signed on the form. They need these forms to get their class lists finalized.

Release time classes begin the week of Aug. 20. Children will not be released from school to the parish without these forms.

Release time religious education classes grades kindergarten through four will begin the week of Aug. 20 at both campuses.

Wednesday evening religious education classes begin on Aug. 29. Grades five through 10 will be held at each campus. All juniors will meet at Celestine Park. All senior students will meet in the Celestine Rectory basement.

Catechists needed

Catechists are needed from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays for grades five through eight at St. Celestine Campus and fifth grade at St. Raphael Campus.

Training and compensation will be provided. The new curriculum has all lesson plans laid out every week in an easy layout that students will love.

Sunday school classes

Sunday school classes will begin Sunday, Sept. 23, during the 8 and 10 a.m. Masses. Registration forms are on the website.

Pathway Catechist training

Diocese Pathway Catechist training on Prayer and Morality will be held from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, in the St. Celestine Dining Hall. Catechists are asked to mark their calendars for the continuation training for catechists in the diocese.

Bonnie Meadows will be presenting on morality and Debbie Schmitt will present on prayer.

Sandwiches from Subway will be served from 6 to 6:30 p.m. before training begins. They are counting on all catechists to attend. If unable to attend due to a prior obligation, inform Glenda Reckelhoff and she will give dates available to attend at other parishes.

Book orders

Costs: The “new” 2018 history book is $25. The “old” history book is $15. A “bundle” of the new and old is available for $35, a savings of $5. The perpetual calendar and photo book, published by the Girl Scouts, is $15. It also contains keepsake recipes submitted by parishioners.

Community yard sales

The Celestine community fall yard sales will be held Sept. 21 and 22. Anyone interested in having a yard sale can contact Kristy Buechler at 812-481-2251 no later than Monday, Sept. 17, in order to get the location on the map.

Blood pressure checks

The faith community nurses will be taking blood pressures at the Dubois Branch Library every third Thursday of the month, starting on Aug. 16. Blood pressures will taken from 1 to 2 p.m. This is an excellent opportunity to get blood pressures taken. High blood pressure can be a silent killer if not detected and treated.

Library news

Library closed: Friday morning, Aug. 17. Reopen at 1:30 p.m.

Technology help: 10 a.m.-noon Fridays; no help on Aug. 17.

Friends of the Dubois Library: 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13.

End-of-the-Month Book Club: 6:30-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27.
