Operator of stolen scooter injured in accident

JASPER — An investigation into a Tuesday morning pickup truck-versus-scooter accident at Fifth and Main streets is continuing.

Police say the scooter’s operator was injured and the two-wheeler returned as a being stolen.

Carl Eckert, 46, Jasper, was northbound on Main Street in a 1999 Nissan Frontier at the time of the 8:30 a.m. accident, according to the Jasper Police Department.

Eckert attempted a left turn onto Fifth Street but did not observe a southbound 2009 Honda scooter being operated by Charles Alstott, 26, Jasper, according to police.

The collision totaled the Honda scooter and caused front-end damage to the Nissan truck.

Police said Alstott suffered a broken arm and head trauma. He was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center but no information was available today regarding his condition.

Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services and the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office assisted.
