Old mill demolished for safety

HUNTINGBURG — Superior Ag’s old feed mill located along Main Street in Huntingburg was demolished recently because of safety concerns.
“It was starting to fall apart,” said Barry Day, president and chief operating officer of Superior Ag. “It was a safety issue, and it needed to come down.”
Superior Ag still has a grain elevator on the Huntingburg site. “This didn’t affect it in any way,” Day said.
The old mill, which was built in the 1950s, was closed in 2008 after the company purchased a feed mill in Jasper. About a year ago, Superior Ag opened its new feed mill near I-64 in Dale. The Jasper facility was demolished last year and the property was sold.
There are no plans to sell the property in Huntingburg, Day said.
“The feed mill was kind of a safety issue when they closed in 2008,” he said. “It just kind of came to a head. And we decided it’s got to go.”
