FORT WAYNE — Authorities say an officer shot and wounded a man who was fleeing police on foot in northeastern Indiana.
Officers responded Monday night in Fort Wayne to a report about a suspicious person with a gun and police say the man ran away when officers approached him.
Police spokesman Officer Sgt. Chris Felton says "the actions of the suspect caused an officer to discharge his firearm" during the chase. WANE-TV reports the man was taken to the hospital with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries. Names of those involved weren't immediately released.
Felton says the officer involved in the shooting will be put on administrative leave, per department policy. The circumstances of the shooting are under investigation.
