Norman T. Mathias, 88, of Jasper, formerly of Huntingburg, passed away at 1:30 a.m., on Friday, April 26, 2019, at his home.
He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on November 1, 1930, to Marion and Gladys (Vogel) Mathias. He married Ruthie Nixon on October 31, 1958.
Mr. Mathias was an independent Sales Representative for 57 years covering Indiana, Ohio and Illinois. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army in Germany. He was a founding member of the Huntingburg Optimist Club and a member of the Huntingburg United Methodist Church for over 62 years. Norm was also a licensed private pilot and flew his last flight, as co-pilot, on his 80th birthday.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Ruth Mathias of Jasper; two sons, Jeff Mathias of Denver, Colorado and Doug Mathias of Jasper; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Known affectionately as Grandad, Norm loved his family.
Funeral services will be held at 2 ET on Monday, April 29, 2019, at the Huntingburg United Methodist Church. Interment will take place at Fairmount Cemetery in Huntingburg.
Friends may call for visitation at the Huntingburg United Methodist Church from noon until 2 p.m. on Monday, the day of the service.
