Norma Jean Schnell, 80, of Dubois, passed away at 4:25 a.m. on Monday, April 6, 2020, at Brookside Village in Jasper.
Norma was born in Dubois County on March 9, 1940, to Albert and Anastasia “Clara” (Kapp) Schneider. She married Eugene Schnell on February 12, 1966, he preceded her in death on July 19, 2006.
Norma was well known for her cooking. She was a cook at Jasper Memorial Hospital and Mathies’ Cafe in Dubois. She spent many hours on the farm alongside her husband. She will be remembered by her smile and ability to make others laugh.
She was a member of St. Isadore Parish-St. Raphael’s Catholic Church.
She enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, crocheting, and watching the hummingbirds from her window.
Surviving are three daughters, Rosemary (Brent) Sutton, Huntingburg, Kathy (Gary) Tooley Huntingburg, and Kristy (Chad) Hartmann, Evansville; four sons, Robert (Becky) Schnell, Celestine, Thomas Schnell and companion, Sylvia Quintanilla, Dallas, Texas, Roy (Debbie) Schnell, Jasper, and Randy (Keena) Schnell, Dubois; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; three sisters Dorothy Hollinden, St. Henry, Elfrieda Oeding, Ferdinand, and Lucille Kleeman, Huntingburg; and one brother Arthur Kapp, Jasper.
Preceding her in death besides her husband is one son Joseph Schnell; three brothers, James, Basil, and Charles Kapp who died in infancy; and one sister, Joan Kapp who also died in infancy.
Private services will be held at the Becher-Kluesner Funeral Home downtown chapel in Jasper, with burial at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church Cemetery.
