Nitrogen management workshop available

The Land Stewardship Initiative’s Fall Field Day will be held from 6 to 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, at the Vincennes University Jasper Campus. Doors to the Center for Technology, Innovation and Manufacturing’s theater will open at 5:30 p.m.

The theme of the evening is keeping valuable nitrogen in the soil where crops can have access to it.

Dr Shalamar Armstrong from Purdue University will share “Nitrogen Management and Cover Crops Impact on Water Quality and Agronomics.”

Travis Gogel from the Natural Resources Conservation Service’s Southwest Soil Health Team will give a tour of the 11 species summer cover crop mix in the VUJC farm fields.  Purdue Extension will speak about the intense weather that our region has been experiencing and how it has been affecting crops and nutrients.
