Next Act releases first half of 2019 Astra season

JASPER — Next Act Inc, the nonprofit organization that owns and operates the historic Astra Theatre in Jasper, released the first half its 2019 season today.

Newly renovated with 357 seats, the Astra has main level and balcony seating with a concessions stand offering snacks, local craft and domestic beer, and wine that are available for purchase.

This is the second season of entertainment in the theater since major renovations in 2017. Through the end of July, another seven public events will take place on the Jim and Pat Thyen Performance Stage. 

Tickets are on sale to the public now for each of the events at www.TheNextAct.org. Next Act has reached out directly via email to season ticket holders on how to reserve their tickets and 2019 Business Members who are eligible for a $1 discount on all ticket purchases.

The season kicks off Saturday with a 30th anniversary screening of “When Harry Met Sally.” This is a general admission event and tickets are $8 each. The movie will begin at 7 p.m. 

On Friday, March 22, Iris DeMent will take the stage with opening act Pieta Brown. Tickets to see this two-time Grammy-nominated artist for $24.95 for general admission or $39.95 for a VIP package, which includes preferred seating, reserved parking and a drink voucher. The night of entertainment will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Comedian Costaki Economopoulos will deliver his stand-up routine at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 12. This self-proclaimed “biggest name in comedy regularly appears on the nationally syndicated Bob & Tom Show. Tickets are general admission and available for $14.95.

The classic baseball movie “Major League” will air at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 20, for only $8 a ticket.

Cris Jacobs will be the next act to rock the houseat 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 18. The singer, songwriter and guitarist will perform this concert just after the release of his upcoming album “Color Where You Are.” This is a reserved seating show, and tickets are $20 each. 

Jump into a chalk drawing to experience the Disney classic “Mary Poppins” on Saturday, June 1, as Next Act partners with Jasper Community Arts and their annual Chalk Walk event. Wrap up your day by joining Next Act at 7 p.m. for $8 a ticket.

In the heat of the summer, watch the competition get hot with Next Act’s second annual Rock Lotto at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 20. The unique event will take 12 local musicians, and divide them into three bands that will perform five songs each. General admission tickets are $10.

Additonally, a 2019 membership campaign for charitable donations to The Next Act is currently underway. The campaign includes fun incentives, and more information about support levels can be found at www.TheNextAct.org.
