Neon sign returns to spot above historic Astra

After the Astra Theatre's original neon signed was restored, a crew from Custom Sign and Engineering Inc. out of Newburgh worked Monday morning to install it in downtown Jasper. Allan Gulley helped guide the sign as a crane lowered it. The theater is planning a grand reopening on Saturday, April 14.

JASPER — The Astra Theatre’s neon sign returned to its spot above the theater located on the Jasper Square this morning.

The sign was sent to Newburgh-based Custom Sign and Engineering Inc. to be refurbished as part of a major remodeling project on the theater that began in April 2017.

A grand reopening of the theater is scheduled for Saturday, April 14, 2018, nearly 82 years after the theater originally opened.
