N. Spencer schedules kindergarten roundupJanuary 9, 2020
LINCOLN CITY — North Spencer School Corporation has set the dates for kindergarten roundup and preschool and day care enrollment in the elementary schools.
To be eligible to enter kindergarten in the fall, a child must be age 5 on or before Aug. 1. Children must be age 3 by Aug. 1 to enroll in the preschool and day care program.
The number to call to register at all schools is 812-937-2400. The scheduled roundup and enrollment dates for the elementary schools are: David Turnham Educational Center (Ext. 6), Monday, Feb. 10; Chrisney Elementary (Ext. 7), Tuesday, Feb. 11; Lincoln Trail Elementary (Ext. 5), Wednesday, Feb. 12; and Nancy Hanks Elementary (Ext. 4), Thursday, Feb. 13. At all schools, except Lincoln Trails, registrations will be held from noon to 3 p.m. CT and 4 to 7 p.m. CT.
Parents will need to bring their child’s birth certificate, shot record and social security number to the round-up and/orpreschool and day care enrollment.
It is important that any child who will be entering kindergarten in the fall to register at the roundup. The kindergarten teachers will be present at the round-up for their individual schools.
Only children who are not already in the North Spencer preschool program are required to attend roundup. If parents want to request that their child attend kindergarten in a school other than their school of residence, they are to attend the roundup at either school and fill out the appropriate transfer request. Transfer requests will be approved or denied based upon final enrollment numbers prior to June 1.
Parents enrolling a child in the preschool and day care program should enroll at their home school location. Preschoolers from outside the North Spencer school district are welcome to enroll and should register at the site where they wish their child to attend. Principals will be present at their schools on registration day to answer questions regarding the new preschool and day care program.
If a child is currently enrolled in the North Spencer preschool program and will continue in the program during the 2020-21 school year, it will not be necessary for parents to attend preschool roundup. However, it is necessary that parents notify their child’s school that their child will be returning for 2020-21 school year prior to the roundup date or their spot may be taken by a new enrollee.
Children who will be completing the North Spencer preschool program and will be entering kindergarten for the 2020-21 school year and their parents need not attend the kindergarten roundup. Necessary kindergarten paperwork and information will be sent home in the child’s weekly preschool folder.
In the event school is canceled because of bad weather, the roundup enrollment will be canceled.
Contact school officials at the school the child will be attending prior to the scheduled roundup enrollment day if not able to attend. On the day of the scheduled roundup, kindergarten classes in that building will be in session.
