Museum announces March events

JASPER — The Dubois County Museum announces their schedule for March 2020. Check out the progress of the new exhibits going up for the Business Hall of Fame and Junior Achievement and the Athena Award for Women by the Jasper Rotary Club.

Participants will try to locate items in a scavenger hunt. Locate items that are colored green among the museum’s collection and spell a secret message. A prize will be given to the winner.

A museum marketing team at Jasper Chamber of Commerce Home Expo will meet Friday and Saturday, March 13 and 14. The home expo will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Participants will play a history information game to win a prize.

Storytime will be held Saturday, March 14, with the theme, “Dr. Seuss Stories.” Sandy Miller will read stories and Amy Weyer will have crafts and activities for the young visitors. The event is sponsored by the Optimist Club of Jasper.

The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. during spring break, which is March 24 through March 27. The museum is closed on March 23.

Free Night at the Museum will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 25. Blake Buechlein and the Jasper Reptile Center will be at the museum at 6:30 p.m. for a program on reptiles.

The Dubois County Historical Society meets at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 26, at the museum. New members are welcome. Historian Bill Bartelt will speak on his book, “Abe’s Youth: Shaping the Future President.” Call Mary Ann Hayes at  812-482-2847 for reservations for dinner. Cost is $15 for dinner. Dues are $5.

Farm Bureau will host breakfast from 7 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 28. Cost is $1 per breakfast, with food being prepared by the St. Anthony Knights of Columbus. The menu will include Ssausage patties, eggs, pancakes and drinks. Visitors may tour the museum. Admission is free to the museum until 10 a.m.

The museum, at 2704 N. Newton St., is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays. The museum is closed Mondays. For more information, call 634-7733 or visit The museum is also on Facebook and Twitter.
