JASPER — Police arrested the driver of a van they stopped early today and accused him of operating while intoxicated.

An Indiana State Police trooper stopped a 1996 GMC van driven by Forrest E.J. Young, 27, 504 W. 34th St., at 2:30 a.m. after Young allegedly failed to stop at and signal a turn at Second and Clay streets.

The trooper reported that Young failed field sobriety testing at the traffic stop at Ninth and Newton streets. Young’s blood alcohol content then allegedly registered .122 percent at the Jasper Police Station.

Authorities booked Young into the Dubois County Security Center at 3:17 a.m. on a preliminary misdemeanor count of operating while intoxicated.
