CELESTINE — A motorist avoided injury and damage to her car when encountering black ice Thursday morning.
The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department actually responded to several accidents throughout the county between 6 and 8 a.m. Thursday that were attributed to black ice.
Madison A. Mattingly, 17, Dubois, was westbound on State Road 164 in a 2006 Dodge Charger when her 7:10 a.m. mishap occurred 500 feet east of State Road 545, according to the sheriff’s department.
A deputy said Mattingly did not see black ice when she exited a curve. She lost control of the Dodge, which went off the north side of the highway and stopped after leaving ruts in a yard in the 8700 block of State Road 164.
Total damage to the yard was estimated at less than $1,000.
