JASPER — Police arrested a 29-year-old Huntingburg mother for allegedly driving while intoxicated with her 7-year-old son in the car.
The Jasper Police Department says that they received a report Thursday afternoon of a light blue Mitsubishi driving recklessly, crossing the center and fog lines.
An officer made a traffic stop on the vehicle at 14th and Newton streets before conducting a field sobriety test on the driver, 29-year-old Michelle Nugent of 2014 N. Irving Ct., Huntingburg.
Police allege Nugent tested .22 on the portable breath test. Officers also say that during an inventory of the vehicle, two different legend drugs were located as well as numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia.
Nugent was placed under arrest and is preliminarily charged with operating while intoxicated, which was enhanced to a felony due to her 7-year-old son being in the vehicle, possession of a legend drug and possession of paraphernalia.
Nugent was transported to the Jasper Police Department for a certified breath test where she registered .231 blood alcohol content, according to police.
She was then lodged in the Dubois County Security Center.
