Mosquito Fest offers food, fun

ZOAR — Food stands will open at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, as the 46th annual Zoar Mosquito Fest gets underway.

Food will be available all weekend with burgers, fish and corn dogs served both days. Barbecued and fried chicken dinners will be on the menu for Friday night, beginning at 5 p.m. New this year, grilled pork chop dinners will be Saturday’s night fare. The homemade ice cream stand will feature at least 15 different flavors.

The Southern Indiana Wiffleball Classic will begin Friday evening and will be played throughout the weekend. For more information about the wiffleball tourney, call 812-639-7910 or 812-639-7957.

Friday night’s musical entertainment will be country music by Iron Mountain, beginning at 7 p.m.

A new event this year on Saturday morning is the Family Color Fun Run. Participants will run through the hills and grove of Zoar United Methodist Church and be showered with colored powder along the way. For more information or to register for the run, call 812-779-7787 or 812-661-2243.

On Saturday, the quilt show, flower show, and farm and garden produce shows will be held in the air-conditioned church basement. For more information on the quilt show, call 812-536-5262. For more information on the flower or produce contests, call 812-536-2635.

The stationary parade will be ready for viewing at 1 p.m. Saturday. As those familiar with the parade know, spectators move; the parade does not. This year’s parade will feature vintage cars, fire and police cars, animals, and lots more.

Saturday afternoon will be lots of fun for kids of all ages with games such as an egg toss and balloon toss, sack and three-legged races and the pedal tractor pull, which begins at 4 p.m. Artisans will be demstrating their crafts throughout the day. Flea market stands will be open.

As the wiffleball tourney wraps up and winners are crowned, the country gospel music group, Five Pack Band, will begin their concert at 6:30 p.m.

The shady picnic grove, a part of the church grounds, will be the site of most of the activities. Zoar is located on old State Road 64 between Holland and Stendal.
