BRETZVILLE — A Monday morning traffic backup after an injury crash near the Bretzville Junction spawned a second collision.

Kelly Schroering, 32, St. Anthony, was westbound on State Road 64 in a 2006 Pontiac G6 and was in the traffic backup from an earlier crash when the 7:26 a.m. accident occurred three-quarters of a mile east of State Road 162, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies said Schroering’s Pontiac was rear-ended by a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire driven by Stefanie Archer, 20, of Celestine.

Archer stated that, when she saw the traffic backup, she was unable to stop in time, according to the sheriff’s department.

Both drivers declined treatment at the scene; however, they both were immediately taken to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center by personal vehicles for treatment of injuries.

Schroering complained of head pain, according to the sheriff’s department, and Archer suffered facial injuries. A hospital spokeswoman said both were treated and released.

Damage to the vehicles was estimated at $1,500 each but both were able to be driven from the scene.

The St. Anthony Volunteer Fire Department and Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services assisted.
